microAeth® Model AE51

microAeth Model AE51

The microAeth® Model AE51 is the world's first ever real-time, pocket-sized Black Carbon aerosol monitor. The instrument can be placed virtually anywhere and provide real-time information about the concentration of black carbon in the atmosphere. The microAeth incorporates the same Aethalometer measurement technology which has been used worldwide for over 25 years.

The instrument can operate continuously for up to 24 hours on a single battery charge. An external back up battery option is available for longer run times. The air sample is collected and analyzed within the microAeth instrument on T60 (Teflon coated glass fiber) filter media. The filter media is constructed within a filter ticket form for easy handling and secure placement into the instrument. The filter tickets can be uniquely marked for archiving purposes and / or subsequent analysis.

All data, including instrument status conditions, collected raw data and Black Carbon mass concentrations are stored internally. The data can be extracted to a PC using the supplied USB cable and the intuitive microAethCOM PC-based software application. The software is also used as the remote instrument interface, for programming the instrument sampling events, viewing current instrument conditions, including real-time measurements in both numerical and graphical form. The microAethCOM software is provided free of charge and is included with the microAeth Model AE51 instrument package.

A new optional high flow configuration is also available. The high flow configuration uses a very small DC-powered external pump which connects directly to the exhaust port of the instrument, increasing the flow rate to approximately 1 lpm (10x the normal flow rate). This high flow rate, combined with 1-sec time resolution provides excellent performance for vertical profiling using tethered and non-tethered balloons.
